The Care Quality Commission has published the second annual report on the Mental Health Act. The report presents findings on the use of the Act and indicates areas where improvement is needed.
The Alliance welcomes the report as a timely reminder of the importance of ensuring that people subject to the Mental Health Act are treated with respect and with regard to all the safeguards the law provides. It is vital that people on community treatment orders are aware of all of their rights and that all patients have access to an advocate. The CQC has a pivotal role in protecting the rights of people subject to the Mental Health Act, which must be upheld no matter how much financial pressure services face.
